FAQ
Coco Peat Import FAQ — Grades, Loading, Documents & Terms
Straight answers to the questions importers ask before their first container.
What is the difference between washed, buffered and high EC coco peat?
High EC coco peat is natural and unwashed, so it keeps the salts the husk was harvested with. Washed coco peat is rinsed with fresh water to bring EC down to about 0.5 – 0.7 mS/cm. Buffered coco peat is washed and then treated with a calcium nitrate solution, which replaces sodium and potassium on the fibre with calcium so the medium doesn't lock up calcium and magnesium from your nutrient solution; it targets EC below 0.5 mS/cm.
How many 5 kg coco peat blocks fit in a 40 ft container?
About 5,200 blocks (≈ 26 MT) when floor-loaded in bulk, or about 4,620 blocks (≈ 23 MT) with palletised bundle packing. We confirm the exact count against your stuffing plan before booking.
What is your minimum order quantity?
Our standard export unit is one 40 ft high-cube container. We send samples before the first order and can discuss trial quantities for new buyers.
Can I get samples before ordering?
Yes. Tell us your target EC, format and destination and we will send samples together with the current batch test values. Courier cost is agreed in advance.
Which ports do you ship from and which Incoterms do you offer?
We ship from Chennai and Tuticorin (V.O. Chidambaranar) ports in Tamil Nadu. Quotations are FOB by default; CIF and CFR are available on request.
What documents come with each shipment?
Commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, certificate of origin, phytosanitary certificate, fumigation certificate where required, and a batch test report for EC, pH, moisture and sand.
Is your coco peat lab tested?
Yes. Our washed grade was tested by the Central Coir Research Institute (Coir Board, Govt. of India), report no. CCRI/2026/NTR-SEP-017 dated 25.09.2026: pH 6.39, EC 0.64 mS/cm, expansion 15 L/kg, moisture 15.79%, sand 0.43%. Each shipment also gets its own batch report.
Do you offer private label packaging?
Yes. 650 g briquettes and 5 kg blocks can be packed in your own printed film or cartons. Share your artwork and quantities and we'll confirm the timeline.
What is the HS code for coco peat / coir pith from India?
Coir pith and coco peat blocks are generally exported from India under HS code 5305 00 40. Your customs broker should confirm the import classification in your country.
What is the shelf life of compressed coco peat blocks?
Stored dry and out of direct sun, compressed blocks keep their quality for well over a year. Keep them off wet floors and away from standing water.
How do I expand a 5 kg coco peat block?
Place the block in a large container or on a clean surface and add about 20 – 25 litres of water. Let it soak for 20 – 30 minutes, then break it up by hand or with a rake. One 5 kg block gives 70 – 75 litres of medium.
Do you supply grow bags or loose coir pith?
Our standard export formats are 5 kg blocks and 650 g briquettes. If you need loose coir pith in bales or bags, or other formats, tell us your specification and we'll confirm availability.
Can you arrange third-party inspection?
Yes. Inspection by an agency of your choice (for example SGS) can be arranged at the production unit before loading, at the buyer's cost.
How do you protect buyers from payment fraud?
We only correspond from @vimsenexim.com email addresses and accept payment only into a bank account in the name of VIMSEN EXIM. If you receive changed bank details, call +91 96269 44702 before paying.
